Christine McVie failed to impress me here. A HUUUGE let down when you compare it to Gypsy, and some of the tracks that appeared on her solo album and the album she was working on at the time.

FLEETWOOD MAC MIRAGE MAC

Trach 3, "That's Alright," is soooo country/folk style and that's fine if you like that sort of thing, but the Mac had seemed so much more poprock than country and then there was this shambles thrown on?! Now I love Stevie Nicks as much as the next person-actually probably more-but I was so disappointed by this track of hers. Those two have always been able to wrap their voices around each other, whether it's backing or lead vocals, and there's some of that on this album, which is nice.īut that being said there are some bloody awful songs here. Lindsey's vocals sustain throughout the album on each of his tracks, most notably heard on "Oh Diane." Beautifully sang, he also shows off his great voice when singing with Stevie. Lindsey churns out the first few words of every sentence which gives it a really nice touch. The fourth track on the album "Book Of Love," is probably his best, with it's great chorus. Then there's Lindsey Buckingham, the only member who seems at all interested. "I still see your bright eyes." An extrememly meorable tune with great vocals from the lady herself, nice backing vocals from Lindsey "lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice," and that great little guitar solo at the end really make the song. A firm favourite with Mac fans, it's rumoured to have been inspired by many things, including the death of Nicks' best friend Robin. The standout song of the album is most definitely Gypsy. maybe something for their upcoming solo projects? After the success of her debut solo album Bella Donna, this is particularly believable for Nicks. Half the time it seems like McVie, Nicks and Buckingham would much rather be doing or singing something else. The party seemed to be over for the band after their phenomenal success in the mid and late 70s. It seemed like the band had been wrung dry of every drop of creativity after the emotional experience of Rumours and the ambitious project that was Tusk. I found that the only saving grace on this album was Lindsey Buckingham and the song Gypsy by Stevie Nicks. Because we ended up making a far better album than we gave ourselves credit for for many years. Some people were disappointed by "Tusk," in 1979, the Mac's follow-up to their 1977 smash "Rumours." I was pretty impressed by it. The fact that we're talking about it again is actually really cool. Having said that, the amazing thing is that, looking back on it now, in the present day, so many of those songs are at a very high level in the continuing story of Fleetwood Mac. "If you were a sort of super-intellectual critic, which is maybe not a great place to come from, it would be fair game to say the album kind of went backwards. "I don't think it would be wrong to say it sort of got overlooked," Mick Fleetwood said about the Mirage album in retrospect. In the UK, "Oh Diane" was released as the third single instead of "Love in Store." It was a hit, peaking at #9 on the British charts. The third single from Mirage, "Love in Store," made it's way to #22 on the singles chart. The #1 song in America that week: Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger." Second single "Gypsy" peaked at #12 on the Hot 100 for the week October 23, 1982. The album was something of a singles bonanza: Lead single "Hold Me," released June 1982, stormed up the Hot 100, peaking at #4 for the week of July 24, 1982. It finally fell to John Cougar's American Fool on September 10, 1982. The album remained atop the Billboard 200 for five weeks straight. The record raced up the charts to peak at #1 for the week of August 7, 1982. Released on June 18, 1982, Mirage proved that Fleetwood Mac still had that old fire. so that we could make an album without imploding." "But in truth, knowing me, I think the main purpose of it was to get them the hell out of L.A. And very kindly they did that," drummer Mick Fleetwood told Rolling Stone in 2016. "My recollect was I asked the band if I could record overseas to help me out with some tax issues. Soon, the band began putting together what would become their thirteenth studio effort, Mirage. The sprawling and experimental double-album had been a huge hit, but still paled in comparison to the monster sales and cultural influence of its 1977 predecessor, Rumours.įollowing Tusk with a victory-lap Live album, the members of Fleetwood Mac eventually met up in France, setting up shop at at the famed Chateau d'Herouville outside of Paris.

By 1982, the dust had finally settled from the maelstrom that surrounded Fleetwood Mac's 1979 album, Tusk.
